Peachick Surprise
A couple hours ago I looked in an incubator to see one chick almost out of an egg, and another just pipping. But a while ago I decided there sure was a lot of peeping going on, so I peeped too... peeped right in the incubator that is!
What a nice surprise! I've got 2 peachicks in a brooder box already, and 3 more hatched out now in the incubator.
This is more like it!

What do you do with peafowl? I have a friend that bought a ranch that came with peafowl (9 pairs!). What a terrible racket they make and the scratches and poop on the trucks are huge. I know they are beautiful, but hers go off at all hours of the night and day as "guard dogs". She'd sell them if she could catch them.
What do you do with peafowl? Look at them. ;-) I don't let mine run loose because we have too many subdivisions close by. Can't imagine people would be thrilled to have one on their roof screaming in the middle of the night. What I am hoping is to be able to sell some chicks, plus keep a couple of replacements.
I guess if you can keep them penned up, then that would be a completely different story. Hers are basically wild. They are beautiful. We always go over to her ranch and collect tail feathers off the lawn once the breeding season is over.
I'd love to let mine run wild, cause as you say, they're beautiful. But we just don't have a big enough space to allow them to run loose.

Oh how I would love to have some pea fowl. Someone across the valley got some within the last month and we can hear them really well. Because we live in a valley, the sound spreads and carries far.
Sometimes I can even hear my neighbors talking over 3 acres away!
So, to keep the peace with our close by neighbors we'll have to give up the dream to have pea fowl, donkeys, and guineas. sigh.
A friend I knew back in South Carolina kept her 3 pea fowl in a very large chain link dog yard type of enclosure, for the same reasons you mentioned.
I can't wait to see yours grow up.
They look so much like baby chickens right now. What is their major difference and how long does it take for the peacock's tail feathers to start noticeably growing?
Sorry for all the question, but I'm just fascinated! haha
